It is with regret that we prepare to say goodbye to the old Veterinary School. The building on the Coupure is owned by the GO! education which now has gotten the permit to turn it into a new school for arts education.
NUCLEO moved into the building in February 2016, after a three-month renovation. Today, 24 artists have their studios there. They must leave the building by May 1st. Our presentation space BLANCO will also disappear.
We hope to quickly find an alternative for all artists, but the reality is that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find suitable buildings for artist studios, especially in the city. The 16 buildings we manage are almost all temporary uses. They are inspiring places, but temporary use also brings a lot of uncertainty. That is why we are working on a more stable offer. But that requires time and resources. We remain dependent on property owners who are willing to think along with us and recognize that providing space for artist studios has great societal value.
We are grateful to the GO! education for the collaboration over the years. And even though it feels sad to lose the building, we fully support its new purpose for arts education.
»> Do you have a building that could serve as a place for artist studios? Or do you know of a vacant building in Ghent that might be interesting for us? Send us an email!
