Through HUP, Kunstwerkt gives a boost to the artistic development of a new generation of artists every year. Following an open call, a jury selected 15 promising artists, who were able to further develop their projects over the course of a year with financial and creative support. Throughout the year, the HUP participants attended various workshops and feedback sessions, exchanged ideas and created new work. They will soon be sharing the results of HUP 02 with the public.
The HUP 02 exhibition opens on 4 June at BLANCO in Ghent!
The selected entries
In December 2025, the HUP jury, consisting of Magali Elali, Jonas Nachtergaele and Ellen Janssens, received no fewer than 294 entries. From these, they carefully selected a group of artists with diverse profiles. Their focus was on non-professional artists, recent graduates, part-time artists and people without formal art training.
HUP 02 features artists Arno Camps, Cootje Velenturf, Elias Peeters, Ellen Claes, Geert Thijs, Houda Ben Azzouz, Isabelle Reynders, Jolinde Deprez, Kaat Van Kerckhoven, Lissa De Winter, Lucrecia Wang Jaramago, Lyra Oey, Miranda Pastor, Tato Greve and Zita Coltura.
A year in a nutshell
After the selection process, the group set to work. Each artist was given the freedom to develop their own artistic plan. They received financial support for this, but could also count on the necessary guidance in terms of content. The group met several times throughout the year: the 15 artists were given tools to deepen their artistic practice, and got to know each other better and better along the way.
We are concluding HUP 02 with an exhibition. Each of the 15 artists will present a work that has occupied them over the past few months at BLANCO in Ghent. Shift, a Ghent-based artists’ collective, has taken on the challenge of designing the scenography and piecing the 15 works together into a compelling whole. Come and discover them for yourself on 4 June during the opening at BLANCO in Ghent!
