Kristof Van Heeschvelde invites you to DRAWING A SAILOR in Lammerstraat. Step inside, escape the hustle and bustle for a moment, and let yourself be inspired by a bust of Koos Van der Kaaij (1899 – 1976) — purchased by Kristof at an auction — in this interactive drawing project.
Everyone is welcome to join — passersby, children, and casual visitors. No drawing skills are required, just the willingness to take part. Every drawing will find a place on the wall. Slowly, the space will fill with portraits of the sailor, each one different, each one unique — like self-portraits of their makers. A collection of people who took a moment, who paused.
DRAWING A SAILOR is about connection, collaboration, and slowing down. It’s about simplicity, process, and the joy of discovery. It’s not about the perfect line or an exact likeness but about looking, trying, and experiencing. Wonder over results. You can sketch, smudge, scratch, erase, and start again. Failure is welcome — within it lies freedom.
Together, we create something that grows, drawing by drawing.
